I feel really bad about not being able to update as much as I would like, but life has been crazy!
I had my student teaching meeting last Thursday, and those of you entering the Education realm should open your eyes to this advice that I wish was given to me when I entered the School of Education.
The first thing, which I knew, but is HIGHLY important is to network. You need professors to sign recommendation forms, write recommendations, and do all this stuff for you...so...GET TO KNOW YOUR PROFESSORS! I really doubt a professor would say anything bad about anyone, but if they know who you are, what you do, where you come from, they are able to write a much better recommendation.
Now, for the things I didn't know.
Take Curriculum and Pedagogy with Dr. Beisser as one of the first classes you ever take as a professional student in the School of Education. This helps you with everything you will need to know in practicums, writing lessons, organizing..all that fun stuff. Unfortunately, I took it as one of my last classes...
Also, make sure you write down EVERY practicum you do, with the teacher name, school name, date range, and hours attended. I had no idea we needed this stuff because I figured Drake kept all that for me, and now I have forms due this Friday that require all those things from me. I will need to do some deep memory searching to find that info out. If you keep it in your records to begin with, you won't be scrambling when it comes time to student teach!
Make sure to save some money. In order to get certified you have to pay MANY dues, so make sure you have some extra pocket change...and make sure your pockets are large.
These are good tips. Please keep them in mind.
I get my TQP laptop on Wednesday! October will be a fun month. Lots of meetings with TQP (I get to meet my mentor!! YaY!), lots of projects, and lots of practicums...and lots of not sleeping!
Until later, please eat your breakfast, bring a snack for a friend, and go to bed early! Good night!
