May 9 is Dead Day!
Seems as though we are not having a Foam Party this year! That is rather unfortunate because that has been a ton of fun every year.
This Friday is the ISA formal! Unfortunately, Greg can't go because he has a class camping trip so I'm trying to find someone else to be my date, but I just might end up going stag, which is great too.
I don't think I've mentioned this yet, but I was hired by Goodrell Traditional Plus Middle School about two Tuesdays ago! I think I was supposed to call the principal back this week, but I haven't done that yet. I filled out some paperwork and still have tons to do to be good to go with the teaching position. Goodrell is in the East side. It is a Traditional because it follows more of the traditional Junior high instead of Middle school philosophies-to be short and sweet about it..but, it has some additional things to it, which is why it has the "Plus" in the title. This school is trying to become an IB school, so in the next few years they are going to add in a foreign language program, which I guess most Des Moines schools don't have in place yet. I find that fascinating considering the latino population here.
Anyway, I've been hired to teach 6th grade Math and Geography. All sixth grade teachers have to teach Geography which means I need to refine my skills in that department. I've never been very good at remembering these things, so hopefully having to teach it will teach me. As one of the special education teachers said, "you'll learn with the students," and I sure will.
Goodrell is only 18% minorities which is nothing compared to what Callanan is right now. I believe Goodrell will have a lot of the same population based as that of Brubaker.
Still waiting on my apartment stuff to go through. I don't know how living with two other people will pan out, but I guess only time can tell.
Next week I am doing full time teaching at Callanan. I have some real discipline issues with these kids because they refuse to listen and I feel like I'd end up sending all of them to the office, which is something that I'd hate to do. I have to stand my ground how I did with Brubaker. I think the end of the year has brought even me to an end and I just let things go, which I shouldn't. I'm counting down, but I can't down too fast because I still have tons to do and get done with student teaching. Wish me luck! These next weeks are going to be hectic as all can be, especially with all the fun stuff going on.
My goal is to get another standard done tonight. So right now, I'm hoping the shower is free and I can go do that...then standard, and then bed!
Tomorrow, I am doing some observations!
YaY for teaching. I do love it.
Take care!
