Student teaching caused me to miss the first two days of Relays which entitled me to an entire DAY of Relays today!!! Yes, I sat out in the sun, wind, and cold all day and now I'm exhausted! The events, as usual were pretty awesome. I didn't really pay as much attention to the teams because I wasn't entirely awake. Last night we went to Court Avenue. This is where Drake provides busing for the Drake students to go to Court Avenue (downtown Des Moines) and just have fun. When we walked into Liar's Club a ton of people were leaving. As it turns out, even with Relays, they were checking IDs and many under-aged kids got rejected and had to go home. Personally, I liked it that way because then I could go in and know that there wouldn't be obnoxious underclassman trying to get attention. I saw SO many of my friends that I haven't seen this entire year! It was wonderful. Cammeo was registered to run the 8k this morning, so we had to leave early...getting to bed by 2 am! I also had to work concessions for this morning from 7:45-11:15 so I had to be up early, too.
Relays is seriously the best time of the year at Drake...unfortunately, I didn't get to enjoy it as much as all the other years because of student teaching, but I did as much as possible. We decided not to go to the Pancake Feed from 1-3 am either, but it turned out okay because before Court Avenue we went to Thai Flavors, party of 10!, and had a wonderful meal there. The food was delicious but they got all our orders and spiciness levels mixed up. With a party of 10 I guess its okay. I was only really worried about Shelley. She is allergic to any kind of pepper, and when she asked for a zero star spiciness, her meal definitely came out as super spicy! Then, Linda's food had no spiciness at all! Crazy times.
My friend from high school, Julio, came to visit, too! So we hung out with him a bit last night and probably will a bit more tonight.
I have a ton of pictures but they shall wait until later.
I have a student teaching story to tell later too. I think right now I need to grade some papers, then nap, then shower, and then go see some friends :)
Tomorrow is planning for the rest of the week, and working BIG time on my portfolio. Wish me luck!
Happy Relays!
