Jon and Shelley are Married!

JON AND SHELLEY ARE MARRIED!!

Jon and Shelley are our friends that live in the same building as Greg and I. Jon went to Drake with us-he's a pharmacy major. Shelley attended Central College with an English degree and now works at Wells Fargo. They've been dating for almost 7 years now, but this weekend they got married!!

It was Shelley's dream to have a small, simple wedding. I honestly couldn't imagine how it would all come together and be perfect, but it did and it was. It was amazing. This was my first wedding...well, first non-Indian wedding so I was learning about everything as we went through it. I had the pleasure of being a bridesmaid, but with maid of honor duties because her maid of honor is only 16.

I kept having outbursts the entire weekend: "Jon and Shelley are getting married!!!" Then, after they actually got married, it was "Jon and Shelley are married!!!" They kept calling it my hourly "Sonal outbursts", and indeed it was.

I met some pretty cool people this weekend. Jon and Shelley come from great, welcoming families. Jon's brother is a pastry chef and made the cake. Jon's mom followed her families tradition and made mints for the wedding, and Shelley's cousin and grandma made a ton of good food to eat the reception.

I convinced Shelley that she needed to dance at the wedding, even it was just one song. Jon wasn't exactly a fan of the whole dancing thing, so we didn't tell him about it until later. It all worked out perfectly, really. One of the ushers was in charge of playing the Unity Candle song, and instead of letting it play all the way through-he cut it off after about 10 seconds-once Jon and Shelley were standing in front of the pastor again. So, Shelley said they'd play that song all the way through and dance to that during the reception. GREAT IDEA! Shelley said that was her favorite part of the entire wedding :) Shelley won't speak up for herself and often does things to make others happy, so my whole role was saying, "Now, Shelly-don't settle!" during the planning of the wedding. I got her to speak up and change a few things to make her happy and that makes me happy. While being in IL for the wedding we got to watch from far about all the flooding. Where I live is fine, but other areas are not so much.

Now, for the pictures!

Greg and I full length!

Before the wedding: My date and I...Gregory is bald!!

After the wedding: Jon and Shelley cut the cake and kiss... the photographer showed me the pictures she took during this time, and my pictures were DEFINITELY better.

Shelley before the wedding. This was when she and Jon were to see each other for the first time. She looks nervous, but beautiful.

The groom with the bouquet and his four men: two ushers, best man and groomsman.

Me with my bouquet...beautiful, isn't it!!??
The girl behind me with the same dress is the maid of honor!
