Today was my second day of student teaching. I have to say that it is exhausting. I'm still in the observation phase, but I will slowly take on more subjects. So far, I've only worked with a spelling group once, and I do literature time, which is read aloud. I decided to go with Weedflower, which I'm pretty sure the students don't enjoy. I should have done a survey, had I known earlier about this lesson, on what types of books the students in this class like. So far I love my kids and the teacher is actually really nice. My supervisor likes me too because my friend Clare, who is in China right now, wrote him an email asking if I was his new student. Small connection makes all the difference. My supervisor thinks I'm awesome now!
Brubaker Elementary is on a 6 day schedule, so depending on what day number it is, thats how it is determined what special they have, except for Tuesdays. No matter what day number it is, as long as its Tuesday, it will always be the same every Tuesday. Personally, I find that schedule rather annoying because I like organized structure, and to think that one Wednesday I have Art and another Wednesday I have Music because its a different day number drives me nuts because I'm not the type of person to keep track of day numbers.
All my students call Miss K. because they can't say my last name. I don't mind it, but I do wish they could say my name. How is anyone ever going to be able to put a face to "Miss K." when they ask in the future? Oh well. I've decided my own class will have to learn to say my name.
Right now I'm trying to set up the student computer for the students to have resourceful websites for the students to use. I'm also trying to figure out how to set up the computer to the Elmo because the normal set-up isn't working. I am determined to figure it out.
Today I received my own reading record book. I will have to conference with each child to see what they can work on and what they are doing great, so when parent conference comes around I have something to show, plus the added experience.
Well, now my nights end at about 10:30, which really should be 9:30, so I must get ready for tomorrow and then bed. Showers have also become a nighttime activity instead of an early morning one.
Until later, please appreciate all your teachers and what they do for you. They take a lot of time and effort to make school effective and safe. Good night!
