I'm sure everyone else has informed you about our fabulous half snow day on Thursday (which meant night classes were cancelled) and our full snow day on Friday (which most of campus doesn't have class anyway). I think this is one of those: "You know when you're from Chicago when..." type of dealie because while everyone was scrambling to get home, my friend Noemi and I decided we needed to go shopping for our Service Learning Project after she picked up her kids from school. The funny part was that sure it was snowing, but while we were out, it had stopped completely! We thought, wow, all this commotion for nothing. The snow only started coming down really hard later that night, but for th day, I'm sure the students could have stayed in school all day and no one needed to cancel class unless it was a night class. If if the Provost hadn't officially cancelled all the classes after 2 pm, I would have definitely gone to my night class even though my group members informed me that they were going to go. I kind of feel like if the professor makes the effort to drive out to Des Moines, the least his students can do is show up.
Then on friday, since class was officially cancelled by 6 am, I asked Greg if we could go shopping and we did! It was awesome. His car, along with our friend's car, was stuck on ice, so we had to do some pushing and guiding, but we got them out and we were good to go. The roads weren't in the best condition, but we made it there and back alive so its great. The fabulous part is that we and Laura ended up at the same place! She had to work and we had to shop. Good stuff. I bought some new clothes for practicum and some food. Greg bought new boots, and that awesome boyfriend of mine bought me Aladdin! I've been wanting this movie for a very long time. I feel so loved. Next movies on my list to buy: Mulan and Cinderella, before they go back into the Disney Vault.
Last night my former roomies and I decided to have a girl's night so had we a sleep over in Cammeo's room. We had such a blast. We went to Perkins, and then were going to go to HyVee to get some cheap pie, but we decided to scratch that idea and went back to Cammeo's and play MASH because we couldn't agree on a movie to watch. Then, one of Cammeo's residents offered to walk to Paul Revere's and McDonald's to get us bread sticks and McFlurries because half of us wanted to walk ourselves and the other half didn't. We had the Hall Director come up to the room twice because we were kind of loud, but we didn't get in trouble. Cammeo and I had a 'who has the highest pitch scream' like at 2 am..and I won. We didn't get to sleep until almost 5 am, and then was awake by 8:30 am.
Today I was supposed to go to my Service Learning Project where we met our adopted Sudanese family, but it the coordinator and my professor cancelled it, and rescheduled it for next Saturday, except I had planned on going home next Saturday. We'll see how all this pans out.
Then we had APO Pledge Retreat and it took a lot longer than we had planned because our pledges got lost, but they all had SO much fun, so that was great.
