Today I am going to my last class at Drake! Whoa! It's not even a real class tonight-they are holding a mini-reception for us in Levitt Hall, which is the upstairs to Sheslow Auditorium. Then, I'm going out with my seminar group and supervisor for dinner at Mustards. I am SO ready to be done student teaching. I really am burnt out and I actually doubted myself as a teacher today until I remembered that I can only get better with time as long as I don't take criticism too personally. Apparently, one of my students, probably one that I sent to the office, told the administrator that I talk too much. I was thinking back and I think I did. I talked too much to keep them quiet-going against my whole philosophy of teaching. But, I am banking on the fact that my students next year will be better because I will have had them since day one. Plus! I'm going to do some research over the summer to figure out some classroom management techniques and ideas for my curriculum.
Greg's parents came this weekend to see him through his radiation and his birthday. In the process, their train was delayed one hour for whatever reason, then realized there was a barge stuck somewhere inbetween Omaha and Des Moines, that they had to get off the train and take a bus the rest of the trip. So, instead of arriving in Osceola at 8 am, they arrived at 3! We then went to the Tulip Festival in Pella for a short time because Greg's parents were spent. Yesterday, when I called Greg after school to meet up with him and his parents he told me his mom was in the hospital. Apparently, she was holding a coffee cup while trying to light a cigarette and look at a Cardinal at the same time that she tripped on a parking block and broke both her arms...NO JOKE! I felt so bad for her. I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to them, but thats okay. I'm sure I'll see them over the summer.
One of my students said he was coming to my graduation. I really wonder if he will.
Well, it is class time!
Happy 22nd Birthday to Gregory!
Tootles.
