Wrapping the Week Up!

Basketball Update-because I always have a basketball update.

Keno Davis was named the national coach of the year! I was driving right into the Brubaker parking lot when this was announced and I definitely did a little dance in my car that others may have seen-but I'm okay with that.

My students have been keeping up with Drake basketball as well because I told them how important it was to me, so if I missed an update, they were there to tell me.
Speaking of my students, I never realized how influential I could be to them. They had to write, "In twenty years I see myself..." and many of them spoke about wanting to attend Drake University! How great is that!
Yesterday was my last day with the kids and I have to say I'm a little heart broken to have to leave them. Who know that in just 8 weeks, I could become so attached to 24 fifth graders. I really hope for the best for each and every one of them. I had a few students who I thought could care less about my leaving cry! Yes, CRY! I had a couple of plays put on for me, where I realized how much these students evolved in just 8 weeks. The students that were as shy as can be were having leading roles in the plays! Amazing! I got a song out of it, a couple of books made by my students, posters, gifts, everything.
After the students left my teacher told me how when she student taught she absolutely adored one student in her class and asked me if I had someone like that, as much as I didn't want anyone to know, I didn't want to lie, so I told her and the associate who it was. I think they were a little shocked, but it was out in the open. Then, we had parent teacher conferences yesterday and that student and his mom came and my teacher told the mom what I had said! Yeah...

I was a little scared for parent-teacher conferences, but it is so true that you don't know who the student really is until you meet the parents. Sometimes it answers all the questions you had about the student and other times it raises questions never thought about before. In the end, I really enjoyed conferences and I have to go back to them today to finish them up!

Right now I need to get ready for my day and pack for tomorrow!
